Automatic Transmissions shift between gears automatically to optimize driving, and changes gears based on the driver's throttle pedal, vehicle speed, engine speed, and vehicle load. Typical automatic transmissions have 4-5 forward gear ratios, a Reverse, Park, and Neutral gear. Shifting gears occur automatically once the car is in Drive and there is no need for a clutch pedal or gear shift like there is in a Manual Transmission. Automatic transmission repair is complicated based on all the components that make it up, and you need to have any automatic transmission issues properly assessed by auto mechanics. Call 410-764-0688 to talk to the mechanics of Pikesville Automotive about your transmission problems.
There are clutches in both automatic and manual transmission cars, and different types of clutches. When shifting gears, the clutch engages and disengages from the flywheel and transfers the torque through the transmission. Clutches should help your vehicle start and shift gears smoothly. The clutch in your car receives a lot of wear and can eventually wear out. If your clutch begins slipping irregularly or is making noises that are raising suspicion, contact Pikesville Automotive to see if clutch replacement is necessary.
Four-Wheel Drive Transmission
A four-wheel (4x4) drive vehicle has differential gears, both front and rear axles, and a transfer case attached to the transmission. Four-wheel drive vehicles demand maintenance on the transfer case, front differentials, rear differentials, and transmission fluids. Visit us on 7021 Reisterstown Rd for service on your four-wheel drive transmission services.
Front-Wheel Drive Transmission
If your vehicle has Front-wheel drive, the engine drives the front wheels only. The power is routed through the transmission to the final drive where it is split and sent to the two front wheels through the drive axles. The engine, transmission, and additional hardware is all located in the front of the car. If you are in need, Pikesville Automotive of Baltimore, MD will gladly repair front-wheel drive transmission vehicles.
Driving a vehicle with a Manual Transmission requires using the clutch pedal and gear shift to manually shift gears based on the speed of the vehicle. Manual transmissions have been built with anywhere from two to eight gears. Front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are the two main configurations for manual transmissions. Typically, manual transmissions require less maintenance then automatic transmissions. At Pikesville Automotive, our auto mechanics can diagnose your vehicle and then recommend the transmission repair or transmission service you need to ensure safety and improve the lifetime of your vehicle.
In motor vehicles, the transmission usually refers to the gear box, which uses gears and gear trains to transmit speed and tourque from a rotating power source to another device. You can have your car's transmission replaced with a new, rebuilt, remanufactured, repaired or used transmission. For more information contact Pikesville Automotive in Baltimore, MD. Our experienced service technicians can help you make the best decision for your vehicle and your wallet.

A transfer case is a part of a four wheel drive system found in four wheel drive and all wheel drive vehicles. The transfer case receives power from the transmission and sends it to both the front and rear axles. This can be done with a set of gears, but the majority of transfer cases manufactured today are chain driven. The transfer case is connected to the transmission and also to the front and rear axles by means of drive shafts.Trust the automotive experts at Pikesville Automotive for all your transmission repairs.
Love doing business with them.
Been going here for several years now. I've brought several different vehicles here to be serviced.
Very professional! The staff went out of their way to help me - my car needed help on a very busy weekend for me and they needed to keep it over the weekend. I had some things in the back of the car and they dropped them off at my door so I could use them over the weekend. Then they came to pick me up when my car was finished. The staff here is kind, friendly, and professional!
This is the Best Shop I have ever been to.. Top Notch staff with unbeatable workmanship and customer service... I would drive outta state to bring my car here..
I love this place! My first encounter was on an emergency basis. Tranny was in dire need of repair and costs were prohibitive. I love my little MINI and tried to prepare myself for simply letting it go. A relative recommended this shop and on my first visit a second relative (who didn't know the first) was in the waiting room. He assured me I was in the right place. That was 2 years ago. They are friendly and respectful and take the time to explain exactly what needs to be done and how they propose to do it. I recommend them to friends and total strangers and especially to other women!
Very courteous. Dependable. Always good experience.
...At Pikesville Automotive, "Doctor Tommy" (who actually came recommended to me by one of his nearby competitors) took my car on a ten-mile test drive and discovered my alternator was intermittently shutting down. He reported this to me before charging me for anything. He the replaced my alternator, test drove it again...and let my car run by itself for over an hour to see if my problem came back. It didn't, and I had my car back in two days...
Me and my family have been coming here for years and everytime I bring my car in they take me right away. Other places had me wait a week or a month to service. I always leave happy knowing they take good care of my car!
Tommy and all the workers at Pikesville Automotive always do a wonderful job repairing and inspecting my car. I have hired them to do body work on my car after it got scraped up in my building's garage. It now looks brand new! They even gave me a free estimate beforehand. I have also hired them to fix my brakes when my fluid was running low. They had my car all fixed up and ready to go in one day, which is very impressive considering how busy they are. On top of that, they keep a few cute fish in the lobby for guests to look at while they wait. Little things like that and the great service will keep me coming back anytime I have car issues or need an inspection. Keep up the good work guys!
